RCD Protection

From the 1st of January 2003 it is compulsory to install RCD protection within the switchboard in new residential and resendential-like situations.

The main types of RCDs are:

  • RCCB residual current circuit breaker without overcurrent protection. These are available in 2P and 4P, 40A and 63A, 30mA and these are used to feed multiple MCBs.
  • RCBO Residual current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection available in 2P, 6A - 40A, 6kA, 30mA. A RCD protection combined with a MCB should be used in a residential or commercial switchboard
