07/02/2006 We have received today notification that General Cables will increase their list prices as at March 1st 2006.

According to General Cables  the increases are a consequence of the continuing rapid increase in the purchasing price of copper and aluminium.

Further increases will result from new shipments of copper and aluminium purchased at higher levels. These increases will be reflected in the selling prices to the electrical trade over the comming months.

The increases will be applied to:

  • Flat and circular TPS, Multicores ( PVC/XLPE )          11.5%
  • Conduit wires and single core copper XLPE               14.5%
  • Neutral Screens                                                     11.5%
  • Aluminium cables                                                     8.2%
  • Other Energy                                                           8.2%

It is the opinion of General Cables that there will be further increases in the future as international copper and aluminium price rises show no sign of abating. General Cables are concerned about the impact on the into store price in regard to the predicted fall in the value of the $NZ against the $US.

As a result of this and the volatility that is likely in the market we have little alternative but to adhere to the 30 day quotations that are in the market at this time.

General Cables understands that this advice could have significant impact on your business and they want to work closely with you to manage what will be a difficult time for the industry.
